A practical activity where children experience the force of friction.

This term's issue sees the launch of the 2017 Primary Science & Technology competition. Leigh Hoath, editor of ASE’s Primary Science, shares some ideas about moving children’s learning forward through activities which support joined up thinking. CLEAPSS launches Calrissa the bunny into space and we add a new twist to a popular D&T activity by designing a a space rover.

This issues introduces a range of activities to investigate colours and a booklet from Froglife with tips for encouraging wildlife in ponds. We give an overview of a new guide studying microorganisms in primary science and making sundials to support teaching the orbit of the Earth around the Sun.

In this issue we investigate how water gets from the soil to the top of a plant, solar kits for learning about electricity and renewable energy, and launch the 'Falling seeds and biscuits' Primary Competition. There's also an important safety alert about using high powered batteries in circuit work and advice on chemical storage.
